I’m B for Back…

January 22, 2007

Um well hi!!

It sure has been ages, like 7 months to be exact. Really bleak delay on this post but its all good I guess! So yar I got my first degree and I’m off from varsity this year to work, actually started today so wish me luck! I’m pretty amped to earn some cash and I’ve had enough of varsity for now, and I know I’m gonna regret saying that but so what! Oh ya and there is a lady in my life now, so doing the whole responsible settling down thing these days…been 4 months of being with her of which the last month has been pretty hellish at times but hopefully she can get her act together ;)

Got lots of work to do, I’m working from 9-5 during the day and I also have private work to sort out during the night so mega busy!

Later Ciao Ciao!

So yeah its totally holiday time from now until the 16th of July and although I have some work to do during the holidays I'm sure gonna make plenty time for party! Tomorrow I leave for the coast with 3 mates and thats sure gonna rock, will def take pics and post em up here for all to see. We are going to Ramsgate on the South Coast of South Africa for a few days and then moving up to Ballito on the North Coast for a couple days!I'm like having occasional fits of happiness coz its seriously been a while since I was at the seaside :D

One problem I'm gonna have to solve in the next few minutes is cash! See being a non-working student and all I'm kinda still living under daddys care and he is totally under the impression that I have cash sorted for the holiday…but last week I spent it all! Being the first week of holidays I got carried away and managed to spend most of my money :(   I've got R300 left which is insanely little so I'm gonna have to beg for some dough quickly, really dreading it and I bet my father knows its coming…the entire day he has been bringing up the holiday in conversation!NO GOOD!!!

K so thats bout all for now,

Keep well ppl!

This is Bullshit!

May 22, 2006

I'm just gonna write bout all the crap i experience these days!

Its insane, firstly my parents are trotting around in Europe happily cruising down canals and running around in the hills of Scotland while I sit here in flippin freezing South Africa slaving away after my little sister(I really wish she were fat so I could say "she actually is  not that little" after that sentence but she isn't fat!) :(

She does bugger all, I swear I should lock the fridge to punish her and hide the DSTV card away so she cant watch telly. I can't count the number of dishes the dishwasher and I have cleaned to perfection! My sister has some serious issues with glass and mug use, I honestly don't understand how she goes through so many glasses and mugs when half her frikkin day is spent at school…its killing me and there is still a week of this hell. We also got two new cats recently and as you have to slowly introduce them to their new surroundings you have to provide them with cat litter boxes and the rest. The one shits an average amount but the other shits like a human, I'm talking monster size logs for a pet! And again I have the task of throwing it out :<

South Africa has this crazy cold front flying through at the moment and its very cold. So I have this neato study break before I start my exams and its like 3 weeks long…most people would take advantage of this by sleeping in but not a fuck is that gonna happen for me coz I have to take the sister to school in the mornings and waking up,taking her to school, getting back, and climbing into bed again just isn't the same so I lose out there! Then the bitch that teaches me the worst subject on earth has made the students do her thesis project by building her models of buildings out of plywood! So I've been spending hours i this workshop at the university listening to the workshop manager dude tell us how he fried an infra-red mouse because of the static charge he was carrying and many other great stories from his life like how he is a real man coz he was in the army by the age of 17 and a foreman on a construction site by 22…big whoop!Damn idiot!

Anyway enough crap talk for now

Bye!

Dis and Dat!

May 5, 2006

So its been a long time since i posted anything in here but I decided today was the day to get it done. Varsity has been pretty hectic as usual but its been weird at the same time. See the thing is, last year I was a terror, doing everything I wasn't supposed to be doing and this obviously caused chaos for my studies! To cut a long pathetic story short I had to de-register from 2 subjects because I didnt have enough time to colmplete the final projects! And on top of that I failed the most awful subject I have ever come across by 1%…YES 1 FRIGGIN PERCENT!!!!

Fast forward to now and I am doing fewer subjects than last year but finding myself doing worse and struggling to keep up…its insane! I can't even figure out why but thats the story for me this year so far! To make matters worse the lecturer of the worst subject on the face of this planet has gone awol and restructured the course giving us more projects that take more time to do so this week I have been sitting drawing this building in CAD from drawings that were drawn in 1920 and dimensioned in feet and inches and half the measurements aren't even there…i have no clue how they built the darn thing back then!

Other than work I have had the odd party here and there and tonight I'm getting absolutely smashed at a coktail bar and then even more smashed at a mates house after:D Can't wait!hehehe

A friend of mine sent me this, kinda true for me but check for yourselves :p

~The Procrastinator's creed~
1. I believe that if anything is worth doing, it would have been done already.

2. I shall never move quickly, except to avoid more work or find excuses.

3. I will never rush into a job without a lifetime of consideration.

4. I shall meet all of my deadlines directly in proportion to the amount of bodily injury I could expect to receive from missing them.

5. I firmly believe that tomorrow holds the possibility for new technologies, astounding discoveries, and a reprieve from my obligations.

6. I truly believe that all deadlines are unreasonable regardless of the amount of time given.

7. I shall never forget that the probability of a miracle, though infinitesmally small, is not exactly zero.

8. If at first I don't succeed, there is always next year.

9. I shall always decide not to decide, unless of course I decide to change my mind.

10. I shall always begin, start, initiate, take the first step, and/or write the first word, when I get around to it.

11. I obey the law of inverse excuses which demands that the greater the task to be done, the more insignificant the work that must be done prior to beginning the greater task.

12. I know that the work cycle is not plan-start-finish, but is wait-plan-plan.

13. I will never put off until tomorrow, what I can forget about forever.

I'll post again in a month or so :p

The 4am Post

March 23, 2006

Yeah its 4am here is Johannesburg, South Africa. The past week has been hell with varsity work. The same damn project has kept me up for 2 full nights over the week and yesterday I handed it in. It didn’t go well at all! Its always a similar story when I present my project to the lecturers, its always a great idea or concept but never resolved enough for the hand-in!! It’s now driving me mad, I don’t know why I never manage to finish a project fully but its getting more and more irritating for me. It could possibly be the reason I am awake right now, I couldn’t sleep coz my mind was thinking about things too much…

I keep on dissapointing  myself with these effing projects! My time-management sucks balls and I need to get it sorted out before all the work piles up and the exams start! Dunno how the hell I’m gonna do it but something has to change. The lecturer suggested I keep like a schedule and set target dates…sounds like a good idea to him but I am terrible at keeping to a schedule, I can write one up(who can’t right!) but keeping to it is a bitch! I can work to the schedule but the targets never get reached. Something is wrong with me :( Maybe you could post a tip as a comment on how you deal with schedules and shit because Architecture is all about dead lines and I seriously need to start meeting them!!!

Sharp City

March 15, 2006

Sharp City is a group of architects who have been focussed on learning about the city of Johannesburg and then showcasing it all over the world, as an urban landscape. They came to my university about a week ago and gave a talk about what they do and why they do it.  Johannesburg is the city that the Sharp City group is focussed on and the presentation they gave to the students at Wits University was amazing. They showed us images of presentations they have done in various places all over the world showcasing Johannesburg’s people and cityscape. Their work really is of great importance for generating knowledge of the city worldwide and at the same time providing an opportunity for us locals to learn and understand just how fantastic our city and its people are!

I was set on going overseas to work next year, and although it would be really nice to see other places, the Sharp City group really has opened my eyes a bit to what is here in South Africa for me. There is so much opportunity for South African architects and there has already been some awesome work done in Johannesburg and South Africa. The link below is to the Sharp City website where you will be able to learn more about them and their work. I have also bought a book called “Contemporary South African Architecture in a Landscape of Transition” compiled by the Sharp City Architects. It is the first book of its kind displaying South African architecture in the years of democracy since 1994.

“From Public Buildings and private residences to business headquarters and educational centers, all have contributed to the new sense of cultural identity in this country and reveal the potential of our cityscapes to amaze and astound”

The book is fairly new so if you are keen to get it you can find it in Exclusive Books or your local bookstore. For those outside of South Africa it should be available online sometime soon.

Urban Farming!

March 9, 2006

Whilst on the browse for information and ideas for my design project I came across the idea of farms in urban areas, I’m pretty sure it’s already being done but not on a scale like this site shows. Its pretty far fetched if you think of it existing in our cities now but in the future space will be very limited and its said that 80% of the worlds population will live in urban areas. Personally I think it’s an awesome idea, especially the way sustainability and environmental factors are considered and dealt with. So check it out, it really does look brilliant and gets you thinking on how else urban spaces are going to transform in the future!

Exhausted…

March 8, 2006

I’m extremely tired today due to the week I have had so far. I’ve been in to university everyday and have been going in early also, which I usually don’t have to do.  On top of that my second design project for the year has to be handed in on the 16th of March and although I’ve got a week to get it together, time seems to be going amazingly fast these days so in reality i have very little time. I just got up from a nap so i’m hoping I should be able to work solidly for a while until I really can’t anymore, and things are looking like I’m gonna be up all night tonight so wish me luck guys…this is gonna be a hectic week of work and stress!

I will get through it :p

My first overseas trip!

March 7, 2006

Hi everyone! I just completed some of my construction tutorial and have some extra time to write a post before I go to sleep. So my mates and I have been planning an overseas trip(for June/July) for the past couple wks, not much planning has been done but the odd country has been chosen and then scrapped. Seen as we have never all been together to decide plans, people have been getting news at different times…quite confusing! I am at a totally different section of varsity to them so i rarely see any of the group and have been getting delayed information. First it was a trip to Europe for a week and then island hopping in Greece for another week or so but that was too costly for some so it changed to Phuket for one week and now the trip is to Bali!! I really have no clue but seen as it is my first trip overseas(I’m 21 so its exciting ok!) I really don’t give a damn where we go, as long as its somewhere new :p

I have been practically all over South Africa which is a good thing because I believe you should get to know the country you live in before you venture to other countries. But being in the same place for 21 years does get a bit boring especially for a young lad like myself, so its with anticipation and extreme excitement that I await my first overseas experience and I will let you guys know where we end up going but at this stage it really is “anywhere”!

Latah,

Badja
